JPPM Successfully Organized a Webinar entitled Educational Data Mining #1

Wednesday, June 21 2023, JPPM has held an online seminar (Webinar) with the theme Educational Data Mining (EDM). This seminar is one of the routine activities held by JPPM as a medium for disseminating knowledge and research results carried out by the JPPM team, especially in the fields of Educational Science and Data Mining. The seminar was attended by 40 participants from various institutions, such as Serang Raya University, Mathla'ul Anwar University, Bhayangkara University, Nusa Nipa University and several other campuses.

The first material discusses an introduction to data mining and how data mining can be used for research related to the field of education. The resource person for the first material is Dr. Tb Ai Munandar, M.T as Founder of JPPM and one of the lecturers in the Informatics study program, Bhayangkara University, Jakarta Raya. In his material, Munandar conveyed a brief profile of JPPM, introductory data mining material including the stages of data mining, taxonomy of data mining tasks, basic concepts of educational data mining as well as examples of research in the field of data mining to solve problems in the world of education.

The second material was delivered by Dr. Rina Oktaviyanthi, M.Pd with the topic "Adaptive Reasoning Association Pattern Extraction Using the Apriori Algorithm". In her material, Rina explained how data mining techniques such as a priori can be used to extract students' adaptive reasoning patterns based on their course grades. The stages of educational data mining research steps are also presented starting from data preparation, data processing, data extraction analysis into association patterns. In her presentation, Rina said that interpretation of research results can also be combined with previous research results to strengthen current research.
The final session closed with questions and answers regarding how to obtain datasets for image-based learning style research, the possibility of using webscraping and natural language processing for research related to educational data mining, selecting the right prediction model, determining minimum data limits, as well as handling data cleansing and preprocessing before the modeling stage in data mining.

The webinar activity finished at 11.52 and ended with information to participants regarding the upcoming event, namely the implementation of the Workshop on Using Orange Data Mining for educational research and the like. See you again at the next activity. Photos of the activities can be seen in the gallery below.
